Jacob David Veronda “Jakey” “Snake” Age 8, of Coal City, IL, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at Morris Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family, in his parents’ arms. Born on April 28, 2017 in New Lenox, IL, Jakey was the beloved son of David and Holly (née McCormack) Veronda. Jakey was a bright light in this world, a sweet and courageous little boy whose life, though far too short, left an unforgettable mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Living with Kabuki Syndrome, Jakey showed strength and resilience beyond his years, facing each day with a spirit that was truly inspiring. He was a true warrior, wrapped in gentleness, joy, and a playful spirit that touched every heart. He found happiness in the simple, beautiful things that made his world special. Jakey loved music, especially country, and nothing brought him more enjoyment than listening to his favorite songs by Morgan Wallen. He was fascinated by balloons and lights, which filled him with a sense of wonder and excitement. He especially looked forward to his yearly trips to Brookfield Zoo, where visiting his favorite animal, Lucy the seal, was always a highlight. Jakey had a big love for Sonic the Hedgehog, drawn to the fast-paced fun, bold colors, and excitement that always made him smile. He also adored Winnie the Pooh, finding comfort in the warmth and sweetness of those beloved characters. The things he loved, he loved fully, and his happiness could be seen in every smile. Some of Jakey’s happiest moments were spent riding in his dad’s truck with the windows down, feeling the breeze, or fishing side by side with him, creating memories that will be forever treasured. He was incredibly proud to be his papa’s car show buddy, sharing in those special outings with curiosity and delight. Above all, Jakey deeply loved his family. He shared a special and unbreakable bond with his mother, who was his constant source of comfort, care, and love. He adored his big sisters, Katherine and Kaylee, and cherished every moment spent with them. Their bond was filled with laughter, comfort, and unconditional love. He also shared a special connection with his beloved support kitty, Macy, who brought him comfort and companionship. Jakey had a smile that was impossible to miss, the kind that could turn anyone’s day around in an instant. He was often complimented on his beautiful hair and long eyelashes, but it was his warmth and his kind heart that people remembered most. No matter what he faced, he met the world with a smile. Jakey was not only deeply loved, he was an inspiration. He taught those around him about strength, unconditional love, and how to find happiness in even the smallest moments. His life, though brief, was filled with meaning, and his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him. Jakey leaves behind a family who loved him beyond measure and will carry his memory with them always. He is survived by his devoted parents, David and Holly Veronda; his loving sisters, Katherine “Kat” Veronda and Kaylee “Mouse” Veronda; his maternal grandmother, Kathy McCormack of Joliet, IL; and his paternal grandparents, Scott and Kathy Veronda of Coal City. He will be dearly missed by his maternal great-aunt, Anna Bazik of Joliet, IL; his paternal uncle, “Unkie” Mike (Sara) Veronda of Coal City; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins who cherished him. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Rick McCormack; his maternal great-grandparents, Catherine and Beno Bazik; his paternal great-grandparents, Andrew “Bugs” and Kay Veronda, and John and Rita Youskevitch; and his Aunt Mary Katherine Veronda, who passed in infancy. Arrangements have been entrusted to the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes & Crematory in Braidwood, IL. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, March 20, 2026 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Joliet, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jakey’s name may be directed to All Things Kabuki or toward educational funds for his beloved sisters, as a way to honor his life and the love he shared with his family.
