John "Jack" Cacello

John “Jack” Cacello Age 75, of South Wilmington, IL passed away peacefully Friday, February 3, 2023 at his home. Born October 5, 1947 in Joliet, IL to the late Peter Alex and Mercedes Rose (nee Pomatto) Cacello. He was raised and educated in South Wilmington, graduating from Gardner-South Wilmington High School with the class of 1965 and also graduated from Illinois State University receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting. Soon after his college graduation he was drafted to Vietnam to join forces with the United States Army. Jack married Marcia Allen on October 26, 1973 in South Wilmington, where they raised three beautiful children. In 1997, at the age of fifty Jack proudly retired from Commonwealth Edison. He was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church and former member of the VFW Post #1740, where he was also the commander. Jack was very devoted to his children and was always willing to lend a helping hand or offer some useful fatherly advice. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, bird watching, and wood working. Of all his accomplishments he was most proud of being called “Boung” by his seven grandchildren. His best moments were spending time with them, whether it was for a brief visit or cheering them on at one of their sporting events. Surviving are his wife of forty-nine years, Marcia (nee Allen) Cacello of South Wilmington; three children, Angela Tjelle, Michael (Stefanie) Cacello, and Matthew (Elizabeth) Cacello, all of South Wilmington; seven grandchildren, Ryan, Maya, and Lyla Cacello, Ty and Taylor Tjelle, Jackson and Juliana Cacello; brother-in-law, Jack Smolik of South Wilmington; and many close nieces, nephews, and their families. Preceding him in death were his parents; and sister, Jean Smolik. Visitation for Jack will be at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Home & Crematory, Monday, February 6, 2023 from 4-7 p.m. Family and friends are welcome to meet Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in South Wilmington for the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the St. Lawrence Catholic Church or the South Wilmington Volunteer Fire Department would be appreciated.
