John D. Ogg

John D. Ogg Age 77, of Braidwood, IL, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 8, 2025, at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, IL. He was born on December 2, 1947, in Pontiac, IL, to Harold and Mary (née Miller) Ogg. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1968 to 1972 as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate, working with Training Squadron Three at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, TX, to keep aircraft ready for flight. His dedication and service during the Vietnam era earned him the National Defense Service Medal. While stationed in Corpus Christi, John married the love of his life, Mary Rossi, on January 29, 1970. For more than 25 years, John’s passion for drag racing was a defining part of his life. Together with Mary, he traveled extensively across the Midwest—visiting tracks in IL, IN, MI, and many other places—chasing speed and camaraderie. Proudly owning a race car driven by Jeff Deardurff, a longtime and cherished family friend, John found joy in the sport and the friendships it brought. These adventures created countless unforgettable memories for John and Mary, fueling their shared love for the thrill of racing and the vibrant community around it. John was a dedicated painter for many years, taking pride in maintaining the Rossi Motel and Village Laundromat in Braidwood, IL, as well as working on countless outdoor projects. He and his brother shared a very close bond, strengthened over many years by their lifelong love of rock music, often enjoyed late into the night. John leaves behind his loving wife, Mary, and his brother, Reginald “Reggie” (Laurie) Ogg of Channahon, IL, both of whom meant the world to him. He was preceded in death by his cherished parents and his brother, Terry Ogg, whose memories live on in the hearts of family and friends. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at R.W. Patterson Funeral Home & Crematory, with the funeral service immediately following, officiated by Pastor Mike Strunga. Interment will immediately follow the funeral at Oakwood Cemetery, Braidwood, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Uplifted Care.
