Miriam Marie Jacobsgaard

Miriam “Mickey” Marie Jacobsgaard (nee Jerus), 79, of Shorewood, IL passed away peacefully on January 28, 2015 at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home in Joliet with family by her side. Miriam was born and raised in Braceville, IL. She is survived by her devoted husband of fifty-nine years, Harold Jacobsgaard, whom she married July 3, 1955 in Gardner, IL; loving daughters, Karen White (Barry) of Indialantic, FL, Mona Hellinga McCullough (Joe) of Lake Bluff & Chicago, IL, and Jayne Cole (Les) of Crest Hill, IL. Also survived by her caring brother, Joseph Jerus of Westminster, CO. Miriam’s greatest joy came while spending time with her grandchildren, Bradley and Matthew White, Jessica Boen, Jacob Hellinga, and Ayme Hylka. She also has many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she loved. Preceded in death by her parents, Verna and Joseph Jerus; infant sister, Donna Jean; and sister, Bessie (Jerus) Cluts. Miriam graduated as valedictorian of Gardner-South Wilmington High School in 1953. She worked most of her adult life in payroll and accounting roles at Caterpillar, Uniroyal, Joliet Army Ammunition Plant and Argonne National Laboratory, where she retired after thirty-three years of service. While living in Wilmington during the first ten years of married life, Miriam served the United Methodist Church as a Sunday school teacher and secretary. In addition to spending time with her beloved family, Miriam enjoyed traveling, camping, antiquing, playing canasta and rummy, growing African violets, dancing and cooking. A special thanks to the many caregivers Miriam has had over the last six years, Pastors David Nygard and Kurt Hoover of Messiah Lutheran for their many prayers and visits, and to the nurses and aids at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home and Joliet Area Community Hospice. Visitation will be at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Ltd., Braidwood Chapel, Friday, January 30, 2015 from 5-8 p.m. Family and friends will meet at Messiah Lutheran Church in Joliet for funeral services, Saturday, January 31 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation at 10:30 a.m. Graveside services will follow at approximately 1:00 p.m. at Braceville-Gardner Cemetery in Braceville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Braceville United Methodist Church, Messiah Lutheran Church, Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, or the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home would be appreciated.
