Wayne M. Schultz

Age 64, of Gardner, IL passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024 in Dwight, IL surrounded by family after a courageous battle with metastatic colon cancer. Wayne was born on August 27, 1960 in Joliet, IL, the son of James X. and Emma (nee Hibler) Schultz. He graduated from Gardner-South Wilmington High School Class of 1978, where he excelled in wrestling. After 35 years of service he retired from the Laborers Local 75 and after retirement he enjoyed working at Chicago Aerosol and on his family farm. He took great pride in taking care of his lawn and there was never a blade of grass out of place. A member of South Wilmington Catholic Church in South Wilmington. He enjoyed bowling and competed in many leagues. Wayne was a member of South Wilmington Fireman’s Beach and Park Club where he spent time making great family memories. Wayne also enjoyed donating his time to the annual D.A.D.S Day (Dollars Against Diabetes Day) for many years. Besides his passion for work, his true love in life was his beautiful daughter, Sarah. A devoted family man, he will be dearly missed. Wayne is survived by his daughter, Sarah (Andy) Probst of Sigel, IL; his soon to be granddaughter, Annie Ray Probst; his mother, Emma Schultz of Gardner; brothers, James R. (Terri) Schultz of Gardner, John (Susan) Schultz of South Wilmington and Shawn (Jessie) Schultz of South Wilmington; sister, Susan (Rick) Myrick of Gardner; and sister-in-law, Cindy Schultz of Gardner; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends. Preceding him in death was his father, James X. Schultz and brother, Peter Schultz. Visitation will be held at R.W. Patterson Funeral Home & Crematory on Friday, October 25, 2024 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm and on Saturday, October 26, 2024 from 9:30 – 10:30 am. Then, there will be a processional to St. Lawrence Catholic Church in South Wilmington for Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery in Braceville, IL. Wayne’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Joliet Lightways Hospice Home and The Arc of Dwight for their exceptional care. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family for his future granddaughter or to the donor’s choice.
