Dorothy Catherine Halpin

July 14, 1917 - July 19, 2010

Dorothy Halpin, 93, of Gardner, IL, passed away, Monday, July 19, 2010, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee, IL. She was born July 14, 1917 in Coal City, IL to the late Frank and Josephine (Jiskra) Elberts. Dorothy, along with her husband, Omer, farmed in the Gardner area their entire married life. Dorothy was giving of herself, even if you didn’t know her by name. If you met her but once, you were most likely touched by her good nature. She was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church and the CCW in South Wilmington. Dorothy taught CCD at the church and taught baking to 4-H members. She was a member of the Lady Knights of Columbus in Braidwood and the Lady Lions of Reddick. Surviving were her husband, Omer; two sons, Dale (Carol) Halpin of Gardner and Don (Sandra) Halpin of Reddick; two daughters, Patricia (Bill) Ryan of Paynesville, MN and Carol (Bud) Schultz of Bridgewater, VA; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Halpin of Cornell, IL; thirteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a brother, Richard (Lucille) Elberts of Coal City; one sister, Eileen Frey of Wilmington; special friends, Sharon Heiman, Pat Perry, and Tiffany Herrera; nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her son, Daniel Halpin and a brother, William Elberts. Visitation was at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, South Wilmington Chapel, Friday, July 23, 2010, from 5-8 p.m. Family and friends met at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in South Wilmington, Saturday, July 24, for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Matt Mazzuchelli officiating. Judy McElroy was the organist. Pat Skelly was the vocalist. Interment was in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Braidwood, IL. The pallbearers were Paul Schultz, Clint Schultz, Josh Ryan, Adam Ryan, Aaron Halpin, Eric Halpin, Daniel Anderson, and Jacob Dahlinger.
