Age 84, of Reddick, IL, formerly of Lockport, IL, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, IL. Born May 19, 1927 in Homer Township, to the late Henry and Neva (nee Deadmore) Winke. Edward retired from Operating Engineers Local #150 in Joliet. He was a Veteran of the United Sates Army, having served during the Korean War. Edward was a life member of VFW Post # 5788 in Lockport. He was known for having a love for life. He had many hobbies including fishing and riding his motorcycle. Surviving are his wife, Anna Mae (nee Pumel) Winke of Reddick, whom he married August 23, 1948 in Geneva, IL; son, Edward Lonnie (Paula) Winke of New Lenox, IL; two daughters, Kyle Ann (Dean) Cunning of Gardner, IL and Cheryl Lynn Winke of Downers Grove, IL; four grandchildren, Aaron P. Winke, Timothy J. Winke, Erica L. Mendyk, and Sean F. Mendyk; one great-granddaughter, Mackenzie T. Bush; one brother, Richard (Geraldine) Winke of South Wilmington, IL; three sisters, Ruth Reiter of Lockport, MaryLou Holeman of AZ, and June (Ken) Kemp of Lockport; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers; and three sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in South Wilmington, Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. John Hornicak officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL. The visitation will be at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Ltd., Braidwood Chapel, Tuesday, April 24 from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name to a fund or charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
