Joseph Henry Wood

January 29, 1961 - April 24, 2022

Age 61, of Braidwood, IL passed away unexpectedly Sunday, April 24, 2022 at his home. Born January 29, 1961 in Chicago, IL to the late Francis and Doris (nee Blake) Wood. Joe graduated from Romeoville High School with the class of 1979. In 2019, after thirty-one years he retired from the Will County Highway Department. Member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #241 in Wilmington, the Braidwood Recreational Club, and the First Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. He was an active volunteer of the Braidwood community for many years, proudly serving on boards such as the Police and Fire Commission, Zoning Board, and was a founding member of the Junior Comets Football organization. He enjoyed life to the fullest, whether it was camping at the Braidwood Recreational Club with his friends and family, riding his Harley, or hosting many pool parties at his house with smoking the best barbeque. Of all of his accomplishments in life, his grandchildren were his greatest. His world revolved around them and he loved every second of that. Joe truly never met a stranger, he had a gentle heart, and a one of a kind soul. His light will be missed but we can now take comfort knowing he received the Lord as his savior and he is now at peace. Surviving are his wife of twenty-five years, Mary K. (nee David) of Braidwood, whom he married December 7, 1996 in Joliet, IL; five children, Kristi Wood of Braidwood, Joe Wood of Mazon, IL, Nick Jedryck of Braidwood, Jacob (Karli) Jedryck of Plano, IL, and Allan Friant of Mazon; nine grandchildren, John “Bubs” Brissa, Olivia, Joseph, Jr. and Frank Wood, Toby and Benjamin Jedryck, Quincy Jedryck, Luke and Logan Friant; three brothers, Patrick (Brenda) Wood of Paris, TN, David (Ragan) Wood of Paris, TN, and Michael (Teresa) Wood of Buchanan, TN; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robin and Shirley David of Yorkville, IL; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends. Visitation for Joe will be at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Home & Crematory, Braidwood, Thursday, April 28, 2022 from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will also be at the funeral home on Friday, April 29, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Romeoville, IL.
