Dr. Nicholas Michael Slimack

February 8, 1943 - January 8, 2017

Dr. Nicholas Michael Slimack Dr. Nicholas Michael Slimack, 73, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2017 in Kankakee, IL. Nicholas was born in Joliet, IL to Lorraine and Michael Slimack on February 8, 1943. He graduated from Joliet Catholic Academy and earned his Bachelor of Science from Lewis University. He went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Illinois College of Medicine which launched him into his lifetime passion of interventional radiology. It was there that he met his wife Patricia Harris. Dr. Slimack began his career in Southern California but eventually moved back to the midwest to be near his family. Patti and Nicholas settled in Kankakee where they raised two sons and one daughter. He worked at Riverside Hospital for more than 35 years as a dedicated Radiologist. Dr. Slimack was known to his colleagues, residents, nurses and patients as an intelligent, compassionate physician with a tireless work ethic. Aside from his medical career he was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed tennis, basketball, football, handball and racquet ball, but mostly enjoyed watching his children follow in his footsteps. In addition, his worldly cultural and geographical knowledge were always a welcome addition to any conversation, a knowledge base he also instilled in his children. Survivors include his three loving children, Dr. Michael Slimack of Libertyville, IL, Dr. Nicholas Slimack (Christina) of Arroyo Grande, CA and Susan Slimack Laurenti (Ryan) of Downers Grove, IL; Three grandchildren Charlotte, Violet and Patrick; one sister Alice of Naples, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lorraine and Michael Slimack and his wife Patricia. Cremation rites have been accorded. The family will greet friends during a memorial visitation on Wednesday, January 18 from 4 to 7pm at the RW Patterson Funeral Home, Ltd. & Crematory in Braidwood, IL. His family will lay him to rest January 19 at St. Joseph Cemetery in Joliet, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Nicholas's name to Joliet Catholic Academy. Find us on Facebook at R.W.
