Paul A. Himes, 83, of Gardner, IL passed away peacefully at his home, Wednesday, February 27, 2013 with family at his side, under the care of Joliet Area Community Hospice. Paul was born August 6, 1929, in Joliet, IL the son of the late John and Faye (nee Auten) Himes. Paul graduated from Wilmington High School, class of 1948. Following graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After his enlistment, he attended Marquette University, studying engineering, until the Korean Conflict recalled him back into military service where he was commissioned into the Marine Corps as a fighter pilot. Returning from Korea, he went back to school, but soon was called into his family plumbing and heating contractor business. He became a member of Local #422 where he helped build many of the regions power generating and industrial processing plants. Paul was a lifelong Chicago sports fan, especially rooting for the Cubs. He was also a die-hard Notre Dame fan. In his retirement he enjoyed gardening, politics, and until later years actively participated in Meals on Wheels, Crisis Hotline, and as Eucharistic Minister at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in South Wilmington. Paul is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (nee) Parkis, whom he married January 9, 1959; five sisters and two brothers. Surviving are his five children: John, Theresa Jordan (Walter), Michael (Jennifer), Cynthia Grabow (Barry), Christopher (Laura); and six grandchildren, Mark, Jessyca, Paul, Anthony, Aiden, and Noah. Cremation rites will be accorded. Private family services will be held. Inurnment will be in the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
