Raymond Laverne "Bill" Vogen

Age 97, of Streator, IL passed away Sunday, December 20, 2015 at Heritage Health Nursing Home in Streator, IL. Bill was the thirteenth child out of sixteen, he was born August 15, 1918 in Gardner, IL to the late Knute and Johanna (nee Hill) Vogen. He is a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II. Member of the VFW in Streator. He enlisted into active duty on July 6, 1942. He served in the European Theatre of Operations and the 95th Infantry Division with the Iron Men of Metz. He was honorably discharged November 23, 1945. After his enlistment into the Army he married Doris Simantel on October 4, 1942 in Houston, TX. Throughout the years, she followed Bill’s career in the Army and traveled the world including Japan, China and much of Europe. When Bill came home from the service he worked on the Vogen family farm, until his employment with Reynolds Aluminum in McCook, IL. He retired from Alumax as a supervisor in Morris, IL. Following retirement, Bill and Doris moved from Calumet Park, IL to Streator. They also enjoyed boating and traveling. Surviving are his nieces, Linda (Joe) Spiezio of Morris, IL, Lavonne (Alan) Babcock of Appleton, WI, Shirley (Dave) Morgan of Pontiac, IL, Jane (Dick) Williams of Peoria, IL, Wanda (Tom) Hanson of Rock, Island, IL; nephews, Terry Koval of Streator and Marshall (Phyllis) Both of Indianapolis, IN, and many other nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Barbara Vogen of Oro Valley, AZ; and special caregiver, Adam Harding of Streator. Preceding him in death were his wife, Doris Jean (nee Simantel) Vogen on July 6, 2015; seven brothers, Ole, Art, Stewart, Leonard, Arnold, Gustav, and Clifford Vogen, whom recently passed August 13, 2015; and eight sisters, Ada Nelson, Martha Davito, Bertha Nelson, Lillian Lowery, Adeline Zogg, Thelma Vogen, Eloise Both and Ivis Wagner. Funeral services will be at the United Lutheran Church in Gardner, Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour preceding services. Pastor Jana Howson will officiate. Interment Goodfarm Cemetery in Dwight, IL. In lieu of flower, memorial donations in his name to the United Lutheran Church would be appreciated.
