Marilyn Theresa Campbell

Marilyn Theresa Campbell (nee Davito) Age 87, of Diamond, IL and formerly Custer Park, IL passed away Thursday, October 19, 2023 after battling cancer. She put up a courageous fight and enjoyed her final days at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Ottawa. She loved it there and was visited by many family and friends. Born on April 28, 1936 in Braidwood to late John and Mary (nee Higgins) DaVito. She was a graduate of Reed Custer High School Class of 1954 where she was a cheerleader for four years. She then graduated from Silver Cross School of Nursing Class of 1954-1957. She married Richard Campbell in 1959. After marriage, Marilyn moved to the Campbell Farm in Custer Park. She loved the farm and if you happened to drive by it during the summer you probably saw her wearing a big sun hat, mowing the lawn with her John Deere riding mower. She was well known by close friends and loved ones for sending heart-felt notes just because she was thinking of them. She loved to dance and always looked forward to wedding receptions and parties that played music. Marilyn was the family historian and prided herself for keeping all this information. Later in life she enjoyed seeing the country and took many trips with the Godley Park district bus tours where she made many new friends along the way. In 2017 after Richard passed, she left the Campbell Farm and moved to Country Meadows Senior Living in Diamond, Illinois. She absolutely adored her new community and all the new friends she made there. Surviving are her loving children, Susan L.(Douglas) Carrier of Naperville, Sally M. (Daryl) Stohl of Ottawa and Daniel R. (Kelli) Campbell of Bethesda, Maryland; eight cherished grandchildren, Dr. Jonathan (Dr. Caitlin) Carrier, Stephan (Libby) Carrier, Kyle (Gretchen) Beyer, Amy Beyer, Melissa Beyer, Christopher (Casey) Stohl, Morgan Campbell and Henry Campbell; six great grandchildren, Cecilia and Julian Carrier, Evelyn and Eric Beyer, and Stella and Stori Stohl; one brother, Jack DaVito of San Diego, CA; three sisters Patricia (late Ken) Anderson of Joliet, IL, Diane (late John) Bohrer of Derby, KS, and Karen Taylor Mesa, AZ. She was proceeded in death by her beloved husband Richard Campbell (2014); parents John and Mary DaVito; her in-laws, Roy and Lorene Campbell; and her brother Donald DaVito (2014). Visitation will be held at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Home in Braidwood, Illinois on Thursday October 26, 2023 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Family and friends are welcome to meet at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Coal City on Friday, October 27, 2023 at 10:00 am for Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be at the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Braidwood following the Funeral Mass. You are all welcome to attend a luncheon being held at the Father White Hall in Braidwood immediately following the interment at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In honor of Marilyn’s love of hats she had asked that the ladies please wear their finest hat to the visitation. Her collection of hats will be there for anyone that would need one. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Braidwood, St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to your favorite charity.
