Matthew J. Pantaleone “Galena” Age 95, of South Wilmington, IL, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Park Pointe in Morris, IL. Born January 9, 1929 to Matthew and Myrtle (nee Shearer) Pantaleone. Matthew married Dolores Cacello on July 31, 1948 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in South Wilmington. He was employed at Peabody Coal for 17 years as a Heavy Equipment Operator then worked in the Maintenance Department for the City of Morris until his retirement. He was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church, United Mine Workers of America, Founding Member of South Wilmington Sportsman’s Club, Lifetime Member of the NRA, IL Wildlife Federations & National Wildlife Federation Affiliate Member, and the South Wilmington Beach & Fireman’s Club. He was an avid outdoorsman with his buddies, Zeb, Leo, Gary, Dody, and Harold. Surviving are his wife, Dolores Pantaleone; daughter, Bonnie (Ken) Bozue of Gardner; sons, Marty Pantaleone of Gardner, Mark (Patty Rettke) Pantaleone of Grassy Butte, ND, and Kelly (Darla) Pantaleone of Palm Coast, FL; nine grandchildren, Joel Bozue of Fredrick, MD, Jennifer Bozue of Gardner, Bernadette (Rusty) Partridge of Seneca, Marti Ann (Josh Hintze) Pantaleone of Coal City, DJ Pantaleone of Lombard, Andrew (Brandee) Pantaleone of Watford City, ND, Tessa Pantaleone of Palm Coast, FL, Lindsey (Brandon) Cotner of Las Vegas, NV, and Kristin Upton in Bloomington, IL; great grandchildren, Jesse, Aaron, Deacon, Justine, Jadyn, Kcoyne, Amya, Elliana, Jameson, Destiny, Michelle, Garrett, and Lalya; and nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Beverly Sereno; grandson, Jake Pantaleone and grandson, Justin Upton; and his beloved canine companions Pepper 1 and Pepper 2. Cremation rites will be accorded. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in South Wilmington on Friday, June 7, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Stanley Drewniack will officiate. Inurnment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the St. Lawrence Catholic Church or the South Wilmington Fire Department.
