Norman Arthur Heiman

Norman Arthur Heiman Age 85, of Braidwood, IL, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family. Born October 21, 1940, in Joliet, Illinois, Norman was the son of Alfred and Alice (née Van Lienen) Heiman. Norm grew up in Plainfield, Illinois and was a member of the graduating class from Plainfield High School, Class of 1959. After schooling, Norm joined the United States Navy, continued his career with the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant until its closure, and then was employed at Johns Manville until his retirement. Norm was a compassionate animal lover throughout his life. He cared for a wide variety of animals including dogs, cats, pigeons, chickens, pheasants, Canadian geese, ducks, rabbits, and ferrets. He was also an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He took many trips out west and across the northern border to Canada in the hunt for big game. However, as Norm aged, that heart turned soft and he went from hunting deer to feeding them in his backyard. Norm suffered a major stroke on November 6, 2022, and as a result developed vascular dementia. In true Norm fashion, his hardheadedness prevailed and he fiercely battled dementia for almost four years. His family wishes to thank the several caregivers that aided him along the grueling journey. Norm is survived by his former spouse Sharon Heiman of South Wilmington, IL; four daughters, Kristy Sorensen of South Wilmington, IL, Lisa (Randy) Kiefling of South Wilmington, IL, Jennifer Heiman (Jim Cwick) of Elmhurst, IL, and Casey (Brad) Campbell of Waterford, WI; two granddaughters, Caitlin (Bryan) Meadors and Jessica Kiefling; two great grandsons, Remy and Drax Meadors; and dear family friends Dale Halpin, Tod DeSonia, and Jeff (Kim) Pachter. Norm is also survived by his furry felines Scottie, Marmalade, Callie, Kiki, Colorful, Grey Baby, Mama and Scrounge. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Johnson Heiman; his parents, Alfred and Alice Heiman; his uncle, George Van Lienen; his brothers, Jim and Donald Heiman; and an infant son, Steven Arthur. Cremation rites have been accorded. At a later date, a private gathering will be held involving tacos and Budweiser, two of Norm’s favorite things.
