Sharon Lee Derby

Sharon Lee (née Johnson) Derby, Age 81, formerly of Mazon, IL, and most recently of Largo, FL, passed away on June 27, 2025, at HCA Florida Largo Hospital. Born April 18, 1944, in Joliet, Illinois, she was the daughter of Harold and Geneva (née Melbourne) Johnson. On November 18, 1983, Sharon was united in marriage to Vincent “Bud” Joseph Derby. They enjoyed 20 years of marriage before his passing on April 30, 2004. A member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in South Wilmington and the Red Hat Society, Sharon had a deep love for her horses and dogs and found great happiness in caring for her home and yard, which she maintained with great pride. She enjoyed many social outings, including playing cards with her friends. Survivors include her sons, Lonnie (Leslie) Harvey of Seminole, FL, and Chad (Patti) Harvey of Gardner, IL; and her stepsons, Glen (Pam) Derby and Brian (Leslie) Derby, both of Indiana. She was a proud grandmother to Josh (Terra) Harvey, Sean Harvey, Tyler (Kyra Pitapit) Harvey, and Cody (Halie) Harvey; and a loving step-grandmother to Julie, Stephanie, and Brian. Sharon was also a cherished great-grandmother to Addison, Aubrey, and Lainey Rae. Her dearly loved cousin, Maureen Tambling, who held a very special place in her heart, and her niece, Tanya Johnson, also survive her. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her siblings, Doug Johnson, Fred Johnson, and Judy Johnson; her step grandson, Michael Derby; a special cousin, Peggy Vogen and lifelong friends Shirley Weber and Mary Landers. Visitation will be held at R.W. Patterson Funeral Home & Crematory in Braidwood, IL, on Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in South Wilmington, with Reverend Stanley Drewniak officiating. Interment will take place following the funeral services at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Campus, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grundy County Humane Society.
