Wayne Edward Sorensen

Wayne Edward Sorensen Age 93, of South Wilmington, IL, passed away Friday, August 22, 2014 at Morris Hospital in Morris, IL. Born March 3, 1921 in Custer Park, IL to the late Charles and Minnie (nee Wieski) Sorensen. Wayne retired from Caterpillar Tractor in Joliet, IL, following 26 years of employment. Married the former Esther Marie Residori on August 22, 1943 in South Wilmington. Veteran of the United States Army, having served in the 78th Infantry during WWII, European Theater. Member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in South Wilmington. He was a former board member of the South Wilmington Fire Department, the South Wilmington City Board, and the South Wilmington Fireman’s Club. He was one of the original members of the Elbow Benders. Wayne, along with his wife, Esther, owned and operated Sorensen’s Tap in South Wilmington. Surviving are his wife, Esther, of South Wilmington; son, Randy (Robin) Sorensen of South Wilmington; daughter, Linda (late Billy) Carmack of Gardner; five grandchildren, Kellie (John) Sippel, Tom Carmack, Attilio (Nina) Sorensen, Brandon (Melanie) Sorensen, and Harmony (Frank) Labanowski; twelve great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; three sisters, Marcella Staffan of Pampa, TX, Rita Anderson of Bothell, WA, and Helen Stella of Enid, OK; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his sister, Mabel Cramer. Funeral services will be from the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Ltd., South Wilmington Chapel, Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. to the St. Lawrence Catholic Church for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Rev. John Hornicak will officiate. Interment with military honors will be in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery in Braceville, IL. The visitation will be Monday, August 25, from 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in his name may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
